Blog post#1- 3rd Marking period

In the book Dreamland by Sarah Dessen is about a girl named Caitlin who is going through a hard time with her family and with her boyfriend. Caitlin’s older sister who is perfect at everything she does, ran away breaking her parents expectations for her. After her sister ran away Caitlin’s life has completely changed, she has a person changed and the cause was Rogerson her boyfriend who sells pot. But she realizes her mistakes and now is having a hard time with her life. I feel like after reading the beginning of the book that Caitlin is really invisible to her parents, no one really notices her.
I feel like this because when her sister Cass ran away she ran away at her 16th birthday.Caitlin she woke up at her birthday to the sound of her mother crying, and she got scared so she jumped out of bed and ran to the door where she tripped over something and hit her head against something. When she with downstairs to her parents no one noticed that bruise, maybe its wrong for me to say that they should since their daughter ran away but they still could’ve wished Caitlin a happy birthday. I don’t think that that is too much to ask for, its just a simple happy birthday. Especially since it was her 16th birthday, maybe its not only her parents fault but also Cass’s fault for knowing that it was her little sister’s birthday and she decide to ran away like that. But even after her sister disappearing no one really thought about Caitlin and how she was feeling, everyone was trying to get in touch with Cass.
I also feel like her parents didn’t pay attention to Caitlin because she wasn’t as talented as Cass was. It was like Cass was always earning the gold medal while Caitlin was earning the copper medal. For Cass her parents expectations were high but for Caitlin they didn't really have any expectations, they let her be. It wasn’t like Caitlin didn’t try to be like her sister she did but she was getting tired of it because she wasn’t being herself. That is why she loved Rogerson because she was finally herself and she wasn’t following her sisters footsteps, Caitlin loved hwo she was with Rogerson.
I don’t think that it is right for Caitlin’s parent to be treating her that way because it can really bring down someone's self esteem and make them someone who isn’t them. Sometimes i feel like this. invisible because i also have an older sister who is smart and perfect where me i am not. I just hate the fact that my parents also Caitlin’s parent compare their childrens because that isn’t right. Because we all are different and special in our own unique way.
