In the book Lock and Key it is about a girl named Ruby who is going through a lot, first her mother just disappeared and she has to live with her sister who she hadn’t seen in 10 years. Ruby has been living alone after her mother who usually just vanished and came back, but this time she didn’t but still Ruby hoped that her mother would come back. Even though Ruby’s mom and Ruby weren’t that close and her mother who was half the time drunk, Ruby still had feelings for her, she is her mother. While living with Ruby’s mother, Ruby didn’t have a normal life. She was always moving since her mother never paid the rent, and she had to work with her mother, they were really poor and when her mother left she took everything with her. While Ruby was living alone there was no water in the kitchen and the kitchen was filthy and she had no heat. When the landlord found out they sent her to social service and there they had called her sister. Her sister was really rich, and Ruby wasn’t used to there rich ways, she had decide that she was going to escape from there but when she tried she got caught by her cute next door neighbor, Nate. They started to get to know each other a lot during the carpool and Nate saved Ruby a lot of times, Ruby got to know that Mate and Ruby’s life was similar, but when Ruby wanted to help Nate wouldn’t let her. But at the end they both were happy. In my book the main characters Nate and Ruby are really similar, they both and to go through tough changes in their lives.
Rudy and Nate are really similar, for example they don’t like accepting help. When Nate’s dad abused him and Ruby found out and wanted to help him he didn’t tell her help him, instead he broke their relationship. When Ruby helped Olive (Ruby’s friend) Olive had said to Ruby, “I don’t like owing people things.” and in Ruby thought, I don’t owing people too. Another thing that is similar about them is that they both have one parent and they abused them. It was thanksgiving and Ruby was using Nate’s oven to bake pies for Jamie’s family. She forgot that she had left the pies there so when she went back to get them, she heard a loud crash. Nate’s father threw a bookshelf on the floor and he was yelling at Nate a lot, he even threw glass, and the glas had hurted Nate. When Ruby was small and Cora was living with her, their mother used to beat them when they tried to sneak food at night. They both also with to social service, when Nate’’s father had beaten Nate really bad and Ruby found out they both together went to Cora for help. Cora helped Nate, she sent him to his mother, who Nate lived with after their parents got divorced, but Nate’s mom could take him since he was a troublemaker when he was small, and sent his to his father, and Nate had to live with his mother whom he hadn’t seen in a long time . When Ruby’s mom vanished she had gone through social service and she had to live with her sister who she hadn’t seen in 10 years Nate and Ruby are really similar, especially when it came to family maybe thats why Ruby was so close with Nate when she didn’t want to be.
Even though Ruby and Nate had so similar lives they were also different, for example Nate really likes people, he is a what people call a “people person”, he likes helping out people and tries to solve their problems, he is very sociable. When Ruby went to the place she used to live and got drunk and her friends had ditched her, Nate then came and saved her, he took her from the forest and took her home safe and sound. Ruby, on the other hand isn’t a “people person” she tries to stay away from them as much as she could. When she heard that she had to carpool with Nate she had decided to take the bus even though she had to wake up really early, but she couldn’t and she had to carpool with Nate and she was really mad at herself for not waking up earlier, Ruby is really anti-social.
In conclusion, Nate and Ruby had gone through the same things, having to be separated from their parents and living with someone who they hadn’t seen in years. When Ruby first met Nate she just really hated him, she thought to her that she wasn’t going to be his friend, but at the end they became really good friends, they saved each other lives! Nate and Ruby are characters in the book that with through the same thing but in different ways and it really teaches the reader about life. Nate and Ruby didn’t have perfect lives, but when they reached out for help and got help their lives got better then before.
I think that your response was very supported and strong. You stuck to the central idea.
ReplyDeleteYou had a pretty good thesis, and you stuck to it. You gave a decent summary and proved your thesis in an organized structure. Good job!
