In the book Invisible Girl by Mary Hanlon Stone, is about this girl named Stephanie. she is an abused child, her mom left her and her dad alone. The dad sent her to his brother’s friend house to live because he thought that she needed to be away from this mess. When she first arrived there everyone was wonderful to her, Stephanie was actually making friends. She was feeling like she was fitting in. But that didn’t last long when Annie (the fathers friend’s daughter) heard that her mom was a person who exposed too much of her body and worked in a bar, when she heard that she started to back away from Stephanie, but that didn’t affect her a lot what mostly affected her was when she was kissing Andrew, and she threw up on him. Then she became invisible again. I noticed throughout the book that Annie seemed contradictory. She’s a wonderful person when you meet her then she becomes mean.
She is wonderful at first when she meets people, for example when she first met Stephanie she was a wonderful to her. She told people that they were cousins, but they really weren’t. Annie was being friendly to her, like when it was night and they were outside going to meet Annie’s friends a branch hit Stephanie right on the face and Annie was like I am so sorry and are you okay. She helped her fit in by giving her a bathing suit, Annie was giving her time.
Now she is mean to her because she is now like the dork out of all her friends because while she was kissing Andrew she threw up on him. She started telling that Stephanie and her are not cousins, that they were just playing around. Now to Annie when it comes to Stephanie she is just like whatever. She only uses Stephanie around boys, like for an example when it was the first day of school she wasn’t walking with Stephanie she was walking ahead but then when she saw a group of boys she slowed down for Stephanie so she doesn’t seem like she has no friends.
I think that this contradictory behavior occurs because when she first sees if that person is cool enough to be her friend, because she doesn’t want dorky friends, it’s like when she first meets them it like a test for them. I realized that she wouldn’t say to Stephanie that “you can’t be my friend any more” or “you can’t chill with us anymore”, I think she wouldn’t say that because she needs like an extra person there for her or like a pet , so if all her friends leave her she will have Stephanie or when she does something wrong she can say that Stephanie did it so Annie wouldn’t seem stupid. To me Annie seems ornery, she also is a cunning person because she tricked Stephanie and Stephanie didn’t even notice.
