Monday Muses-Blog number 4

One of our class Monday Muses was to write our childhood memories, we got 15 minutes to write. From my list of childhood memories was when i got a phone call saying that i had a little brother. I have always wanted to be a older sister, i love babies they are just so adorable and fun to play with, i really wanted to be a older sister because i wanted to see one grow up in front of my own eyes. So when i found out that my mom was pregnant i was really happy, i wasn’t exactly jumping up and down but i was happy.
If you are thinking why i wasn’t jumping up and down, because i did say i really wanted to be a older sister, and that i loved babies, everything is all good right? But it isn’t, when my mom found out that she was pregnant she was scared, it wasn't completely her fault for being scared, because the doctor said that she baby might not make it........ She didn’t want to tell us because she was scared if they baby didn’t make it then both my sister and me would be really heartbroken, so my parents didn’t tell us anything. But how long can you hid something that huge? Not so long, my sister and me didn’t suspect anything, it was my friend who did. My mom was in the backyard watching my friend, my sister and me play, my mom went inside because the phone was ringing.
But i wished she never did go inside, that’s when my friend came up to my sister and me and asked, “Is your mom pregnant?” In my head i thought that she was insulting my mom and calling her fat.
My sister answered, “ NO! If she was she would’ve told us.” My friend didn’t have a chance to answer her back because my mom came back outside.
After a few minutes my friend asked, “ Can i go drink water?”
My mom said, “ OF course you can, Satabdi why don’t you go give her water. “
My friend replied, “I also have to use the bathroom so can i go inside as well?”
My mom smiled and said, “ Of course you can.” We both went inside, when we got out of my moms sight my friend ran to my parents room instead of going to the bathroom, i was so confused.
When i ran to my parents room i say my friend reading  one of my moms medicine, i asked, “What are you doing!?”
My friend smiled and said, “I told you, your mom is pregnant, you see this medicine, this is want pregnant womans take.”
i didn’t believe her, i  knew that my mom would never hide the fact that she was pregnant, i snapped at her, “ You know what, you shouldn’t be in my parents room first of all, and you shouldn’t be looking through their stuff!” Tears were welling up in my eyes, i didn’t want to cry in front of her, so i tried as hard as possible to hold it in.
My friend smiled and said, “If you don’t believe me then read it yourself.” I snatched the box away from her and i did read it, it was true my mom was pregnant. I couldn’t believe it, my mom was hiding that she was pregnant, the one thing that was going through my head was; how could she?

One month had passed me knowing my mom was pregnant and yet she said nothing to us, and i said nothing to no one either. It was one evening when my parents called my sister and me to the lining room to talk, then i had a feeling they were going to tell us that my mom was pregnant.
When we got to the living room, my dad started speaking, “Okay you guys, what i am going to tell you is going to be huge, it is going to take some time to let it process through your brain....We are going to move.”
I was shocked, not because that we were going to move, but that my dad didn’t mention anything about my mom being pregnant, so i asked, “ Is there anything else you want to say?”
My dad looked at my mom then me and said, “ No thats about it.”
I couldn’t hold it together anymore and i screamed, “ NO! That is not it and you know it, there is more that you should say!”
My dad shocked said, “ What else is there to say?”
I looked at him with tears rolling down my cheeks, i looked at my mom and said, “ Mom is pregnant, isn’t that true? Huh, tell me isn’t that true?”
My dad rubbed his temples and said, “Yes, it is true.” Thats is all i needed to hear, and i ran out of the living room to my room. After a few minutes my mom came in, i was still laying in bed crying.
My mom sat on my bed and played with my hair, “I’m sorry i didn’t tell you before, i know how happy and excited you would have been when you heard that you were going to be a older sister. I am sorry that you had to find it out yourself.”
i didn’t say anything after a while, then i said, “Why? why did you hide it from us?”
She was quiet, then she said, “The doctor told me that the baby might not make it, and i knew that if the baby didn’t make it, you both would be heartbroken, i was just trying to protect you. Please forgive me.”
I got up and looked into her eye and saw that she was really sorry, i hugged her and said that is was okay.

  2. I really like the dialogue throughout the whole story and how you expressed what you felt. It really helped me understand what was going through your brain at all times. My favorite thing, however, is how at the beginning you were saying how you didn't jump up and down at the news and to be honest, I was really confused. At the end though when you brought that up again was when I understood. Great idea and great piece.
