In the book Kite Runner by Khaled Hossein it is about a boy named Amir, who lives in Afghanistan and has gone through hard times, times that had affected his whole life. He grew up together with a servant named Hassan, they both are the same age, the thing Amir and Hassan were best friends but Amir never called Hassan his friend. This book is mostly about their friendship, and how what Amir saw that had happened to Hassan affected his life. This book shows important lessons, and an important friendship, the book might have text that is in inappropriate but through the text we could see how the character is feeling. I think that this book shouldn’t be banned, because it is an important book and teaches important lessons to the readers.
The book teaches really important lessons that is important to know, it teaches us about life and life is an really important subject. For example Baba (Amir’s father) told Amir an really important lesson, “Now no matter what the muallah teaches. there is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft. When you kill a man you steal a life. You steal his wife’s right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth . When you cheat. you steal the right to fairness.” This is a really strong message because it teaches readers that very sin is part is part of theft, you really can’t say this is a fact but it is interesting how Baba thinks like that. For me this was interesting for me because i never thought of it like that i always thought that every sin is different, but after reading this i now agree with Baba. That is why i think that this book shouldn’t be banned, it get reader to start thinking about what they think, and if a book can do that then the book is a really strong book.
In the book is also shows an important friendship between Amir and Hassan, Amir is a rich boy and Hassan is Amir’s family servant, but still they grew up together to be really close. That itself shows an important lesson, that when it comes to friendship class doesn’t matter all that matter is what kind of person you are. For example, when Amir wrote his first story he with to Hassan at the middle of the night and woke him up, Hassan instead of being mad at him for waking him up, his face lit up when he heard that Amir wrote his own story. Hassan got up and when he was finished hearing the story he said, “Some day, Insallah you will be a great writer, and people all over the world people will read your stories.” This quotation means that hopefully one day Amir would become a great writer, Hassan had wished that. Because of what Hassan had said Amir had started to write, and that is how he found the talent he has in writing. In an article “The Banned Books we have Loved.” by Jen Doll said that “Not only were these books ones we read intently, and over and over again, they were books that taught us important things.” This shows that the books that are on the banned list are books that taught us important lessons, and we read these books over and over again even though we already read it.
The book has inappropriate language, language that might affect young readers and teach them to speak like that, For example Amir started cursing when he found out that Baba had lied to Amir his whole life, that Hassan was Amir’s half-brother. “You bastards, you goddamn bastards. All of you, you bunch of lying goddamn bastards!” “ Why? What can you possibly say to me? I’m thirty-eight years old and i’ve just found out my whole life is one fucking lie! What can you possibly say to me to make things better? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing!” In this quotation Amir was really mad when he found out that his father had sleep with Hassan’s mom, and that he never knew that Hassan and him were half-brothers. In this quotation has you can see there are cursing words, not one but two. This quotation does have cursing words, but through this words, through the cursing words you get to see how the character is feeling. The author doesn’t use curse words for no reason, there is a reason which is to shows emotion, there is strong feelings behind the curse words.
In conclusion, this book should not be banned because is shows important lessons, even though there is curse words, the curse words are important and i think that authors should use curse words to show emotion.
